The design of the IRC logo is based on traditional Shoowa cloth designs from the Congo, in Central Africa. The raffia grass used in these textiles was usually gathered and sometimes woven not by the women of the villages, but the men. It took great skill to create the elaborate geometric patterns, which were colored in beautiful earth tones. The colors have been altered for our purposes.
