Hometown: Northampton, MA
Fred A. Jones, Jr., a Latin scholar, graduated with his degree in History at Tufts University. His extracurricular activities included service as a peer leader, Goddard Chapel monitor, residential assistant, and editorial assistant for the Onyx Black Literary Magazine. As captain of the Tufts track team, he won the national championship in the triple jump (2006) and earned ten All-American awards during his four years of collegiate competition. He currently serves as an education policy staff assistant for the US House Committee on Education and Labor.
During his first summer with the Institute, Fred interned at the Office of Community Service for the Department of Health and Human Services. In his final summer, he interned at the Washington Scholarship Fund. Fred returned for a third summer to the Institute in 2007, where he served as a summer fellow.
Like Bernard, Fred was among 68 students selected from a national competition to participate in the 2007 Coro Fellows Program.
