Branden Kelly intended to focus all of his attention on Political Science, but after taking an introductory course in Economics at Stanford University, he decided to add that subject as a second major.  Branden considers his work at soup kitchens, clothing drives and other services important, but finds it unfulfilling because such efforts are only short-term solutions.  He views economic empowerment as critical to help the poor out of poverty. 

During his first summer, he interned at the National Center for Neighborhood Enterprise.  In 2004, Branden conducted research at the Public Policy Institute of Georgetown University.
