Stefan Lallinger double majored in Political Science and Development Studies at Brown University as part of the Program in Liberal Medical Education, which guarantees admission to Brown Medical School upon graduation.  While Stefan is a native of Chapel Hill, NC, he spent seven years living in Tanzania as a child and a year in Germany during high school.  He is fluent in German, proficient in Spanish and French, and studies Swahili.  In 2006, Stefan served as an elected representative for the class of 2008 in the Brown Undergraduate Council of Students and worked as a residential peer leader.  The following year, he worked at the Howard R. Swearer Center for Public Service as the program coordinator for CityBrothers and as the co-chair of the Brotherhood. Stefan has since deferred admission to medical school to participate in Teach for America in New Orleans.

His 2005 summer was spent tutoring children and senior citizens in English and other subjects in Quito, Ecuador. He then interned for Senator Joseph Biden during the summer of 2006. The following summer, Stefan worked with the Polaris Project, a non-profit organization that addresses human trafficking issues.
