John Saunders participateed in the distinguished Commonwealth College honors program at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  He has earned numerous awards, including, 21st Century Scholar and ALANA Honors Society Scholar.  In past summers, he has volunteered his time to work with young people in his community. 

Since graduating from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University in 2008, he has served as the Chief Program Officer for the Institute for Responsible Citizenship.

During his first summer as an Institute scholar, he interned at the U.S. Department of Education. In 2005, he interned with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The following summer, John returned to the Institute as the 2006 summer fellow.
